CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Nigel is a highly experienced, hands-on specialist with an impressive track record. He has over 20 years’ experience working with health and care organisations in the UK and his in-depth understanding of the nature and complexities of the sector is second to none.
Over the years, Nigel has been at the forefront of transforming NHS organisations to meet the demands of the changing political and economic environment in which they operate. He has worked with a diverse portfolio of clients from groups of GPs, nurses, practice managers, secondary care clinicians, NHS managers, board directors and commissioners, to the BMA, LMCs, SHAs, PCTs, ICOs and, most recently, social enterprises.
Nigel works closely with policy makers such as the Department of Health, Welsh Assembly and the Cabinet Office and is a regular contributor to policy debates on issues affecting the health and care sector. He was also involved in setting up the national Clinical Governance Support Unit and maintains a close interest in Clinical Governance issues. A renowned conference facilitator as well as a sought after speaker and chair, Nigel is retained by several prestigious clients for their annual conference and regularly hosts and contributes to high profile events, seminars and think tanks.
Recent NHS reforms have seen Nigel’s focus turn to developing GP Commissioning Consortia nationwide and has successfully supported many of them to achieve Pathfinder status and, subsequently, set up GP providing groups to deliver services in the community. Nigel’s extensive experience of the processes involved in setting up a range of different company structures as well as excellent knowledge of issues relating to Articles of Association, Shareholder Agreements, Business Planning and Project Management enables newly formed organisations to quickly develop into fully functioning, successful operations.
Following the Government’s Right to Request programme, Nigel has also been instrumental in guiding numerous health and care groups throughout England to set up staff-led enterprises, the largest one recently being the Social Enterprise for Community Services in East Surrey. Nigel is a firm believer in sharing best practice with all groups that he works with and is rapidly becoming a sought after authority in this field.
As a highly skilled and experienced practitioner in the health and care sector, Nigel is often approached to take up interim management and Board positions for new companies requiring clear guidance or for established organisations/departments undergoing transformation. Examples of Nigel’s roles have included interim Chief Executive for Harrow Health Ltd, a GP provider company, and interim Director of Commissioning for Dorset PCT.
