MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Steve has been a partner in a large teaching practice for the past 20 years and throughout that time has been involved in commissioning, from the birth of fund-holding to the present day.

Steve is currently heavily involved with his local CCG - the Dudley Commissioning Group -where he is both a Board member and also holds a post as Clinical Executive. Steve plays a pivotal role in the development of the CCG and was delighted when their efforts were rewarded in November 2011 as the CCG won the prestigious Health Service Journal "Commissioning Organisation of the Year" award.

Steve understands the pitfalls and practicalities of commissioning at the coalface and is often called upon to advise clients on specific issues and situations which arise in the development of a commissioning organisation. His recent challenges have involved trying to develop a sophisticated and mature interface with the local provider (despite the challenges that PBR poses), creating an environment for clinical engagement across primary care and, most importantly, keeping the patient central to the decision making. Steve firmly believes that getting these 3 things right are key to succeeding as a commissioning organisation.
